Artist’s note:
When we began medical school, many of us did not know what to expect from a career in medicine. Despite our best efforts to shadow, think deeply about a career of service, and write extensively about it, we did not know what we signed up for. Like any journey, I believe we are most touched by the people we meet along the way. Our patients, teachers, and classmates constantly shape the type of physicians we will become in ways that may not be apparent but are crucial to how we practice. No one has shaped the trajectories of PSOM students more than the man himself: 25 egg man. We first encountered him in a biochemistry “met rounds” problem set. We never knew if he ate 25 eggs per day because of the strength of his will or over-zealous bile acid synthesis. What we do know is that 25 egg man represents the best in us. He has been a gift to our profession and reminds us that it is always sunny in Philadelphia.
